Our Process

01 - Plan

Through a meeting or phone call, we will evaluate your project, and determine a plan to accomplish your goals.

02 - Design

After we agree on a plan, we will explore concepts. Then present the design to you for review in person or over email.

03 - Refine

We will refine the design through emails or meetings, exchanging marked up drawings. This process will continue until the design is finalized.

04 - Complete

Once designs are finalized, we will complete the project by preparing the technical written and graphic documents for the project.

Who We Are

Hi, I’m Dana Engels, owner of Whatcom House Plans. We’re a local residential drafting company serving Whatcom County and the surrounding areas. Whether you’re a builder, contractor, real estate agent, or homeowner, we provide practical, builder-friendly home plans with a focus on communication, consistency, and results you can count on.

My background is rooted in design and construction. I got my start working under a seasoned designer, learning the importance of detail and precision. Later, I stepped into a leadership role as Operations Manager at a large contracting company, where I oversaw everything from design and permitting to getting projects off the ground. Those experiences laid the foundation for Whatcom House Plans. Now, I lead a small team that’s passionate about helping people bring their vision to life—whether that’s a custom dream home or a straightforward spec design. We love what we do, and we look forward to helping you create something lasting.
